Walking past one of my favorite spots on the border between the Raval and Sant Antoni I found this skull posted almost high enough to be missed by the average pedestrian. It had actually been spotted by a group of tourists. I just hope the visitors realize that the Dia de los Muertos, along with the cheap sombreros sold on the Rambla are from the other side of the ocean.
I hope so too – a lot of times, people seem to think Spain is just like Mexico, only a little further away from the U.S.
Quite true. And the tacky souvenir shops selling sobreros doesn’t help much. I’ve always theorized that it’s a conspiracy with the pickpockets, so they have an easier time spotting tourists.
Hahaha, definitely a tribute to Dia de los Muertos and Mexican culture. I like the Aztec-inspired bird detail at the back of the skull. Is this a wheat paste?
Not sure. It looked like a sticker to me, but it’s pretty high up, couldn’t get a good look.
